San Diego Whale Watching
on the Western Explorer

Western Explorer, San Diego Whale Watching

Looking for something a little more adventurous?

New for 2009, the "Western Explorer" is a 27' Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RIB), similar to the boats the Coast Guard uses for search and rescue. However, it was purpose built specifically to run eco-tours. The "Western Explorer" US Coast Guard certified to carry up to 15 (limited to only 6) guests and cruises at up to 27 knots, getting us where we need to go quickly. To ensure your comfort, every guest receives a full length Coast Guard approved anti-exposure suit.

Of course, while the "Western Explorer" is a thrill, it is not a thrill ride. Every trip is guided by an experienced Captain/Naturalist and an additional Naturalist to make sure that you have an interactive whale watching experience. Exploring the waters of the Coronado Islands (Mexico), and encountering whales, dolphins, and wildlife at water level gives you a unique perspective and an opportunity to really experience the local ecosystem.

If you are looking for a wind in your hair "expedition style" whale watching adventure in San Diego, with the opportunity to learn about the amazing whales and wildlife of the Pacific Coast, then the Western Explorer is for you.

Why the "Western Explorer" is one of the safest boats around:
  • Twin 4 stroke outboard engines
  • 1/4" Aluminum hull with 5 watertight compartments
  • Military grade inflatable tubes with 5 airtight chambers
  • EPIRB emergency location device
  • Life float for 22 people
  • Fire suppression system
